On Tuesday, Apple rolled out iOS 17.2.1 to eligible iPhone models and unspecified bug fixes. The Update was released a week after the iPhone maker rolled out the iOS 17.2 (Review) Update with the Journal app that was first announced at WWDC 2023.
The new iOS update includes a range of bug fixes and performance enhancements. It also improves the security of FaceTime calls with an enhanced Lockdown Mode that lets you blur out your appearance during a call or video conference. It is a recommended upgrade for all iPhone users.
iOS 17 brings significant updates to Phones, Messages, and FaceTime, along with enhancements for Maps, Photos, Widgets, Safari, AirDrop, and the systemwide Photo Picker. It delivers better battery life and improved performance with faster launch times, less memory consumption, and a faster, more responsive camera that takes up less space. It also offers new ways to express yourself with stickers in iMessage conversations and supports the Tapback reply feature in FaceTime and a catch-up arrow that moves you to the first unread message in a thread.
In the upcoming iOS version, Apple is adding new features to its popular Notes app, including creating and viewing folders in the UI and searching for notes with keywords or text phrases. It also allows swiping on an empty page to erase and redo it. It will also enable users to share notes with multiple people and will allow them to edit a document together on a single device.
Meanwhile, the Journal app in iOS 17 lets users record and reflect on their daily lives with end-to-end encryption between their iPhone and iCloud and on-device machine learning to provide journaling suggestions like Reflections. It has been designed for users with extraordinary digital threats, such as journalists and human rights activists, and it also includes a secure way to verify contacts through iMessage with a two-step verification process.
In macOS Sonoma 14.2.1, Apple has fixed a screen-sharing bug that could accidentally show others’ content from random “spaces” on your Mac when using the feature with someone else. It has also fixed a session rendering issue to improve session tracking.
The macOS Sonoma update is available via the Over-the-Air update on recent Macs or through Finder on macOS Catalina and later or macOS Mojave. Users can check for the Update on their Mac by opening System Preferences, clicking the Apple menu, selecting Software Update, and then clicking the Update Now button. Keeping your operating system up to date is vital to ensure it remains safe from bugs and other vulnerabilities, so always download the latest updates.
