Zoom Communications has unveiled AI Companion 3.0, a substantial upgrade to its suite of AI-driven productivity tools. Announced on December 15, 2025, this update redefines the assistant, evolving it from a meeting-centric tool into a fully-fledged, agent-like AI system. The goal? To transform conversations into tangible results. The new version prioritizes intelligent work orchestration, enabling users to effortlessly transition from discussions to task execution within Zoom’s ecosystem.
A key feature is the web-based interface, now available at ai.zoom.us. This browser-based assistant removes the necessity of the Zoom desktop app, offering a conversational workspace where users can engage with AI Companion at any time. It boasts enhanced contextual understanding, allowing users to glean insights, streamline their daily activities, and boost their productivity without needing to switch between different applications.
The web interface now includes prompt templates and starter conversations, designed to help users quickly get a feel for its capabilities, such as generating reports or drafting content.
AI Companion 3.0 brings expanded task automation, thanks to agentic workflows and personal automation features. Agentic retrieval allows the AI to search through Zoom Workplace data—meeting transcripts, summaries, and notes—along with integrated third-party apps like Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive (with Gmail and Outlook support on the way). This means automatic generation of follow-up tasks, email drafts, and daily reflection reports that summarize meetings, updates, and action items. In beta, personal workflows automate recurring processes, like gathering insights from team chats or creating daily summaries, which cuts down on manual work and mental strain.
The update also improves integration with Zoom Docs, with agentic AI features coming soon.
Users can create, refine, and work together on documents, drawing on insights from meetings, and then move effortlessly between the web and Zoom Docs. This encompasses AI-driven brainstorming for projects, tone adjustments, and the generation of data tables, all designed to simplify content creation and team collaboration.
AI Companion 3.0, built on Zoom’s federated AI framework, integrates the company’s own large and small language models (LLMs/SLMs) with top-tier third-party models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and open-source alternatives like NVIDIA Nemotron. This blended approach yields more precise transcription, closed captions, translations, and pertinent results, all while upholding robust security and privacy standards—Zoom does not leverage customer communications to train its models.
The release has also expanded accessibility.
Paid Zoom Workplace users can access this feature at no additional charge. A standalone subscription is also offered, priced at $10 monthly, which allows use without a full Zoom Workplace license. Free Zoom Workplace Basic users now have access to some limited features, including meeting summaries and AI-generated notes, though they’re capped at three meetings per month.
Zoom is positioning AI Companion 3.0 as a move towards an AI-driven work platform. The goal is to automate repetitive tasks while still emphasizing human connection. This update underscores Zoom’s evolution from a simple video conferencing tool to a more comprehensive intelligent workspace, especially as businesses continue to navigate remote and hybrid collaboration.
