Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7: Redefining the Foldable Smartphone Experience

With the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7, Samsung has once again pushed the limits of smartphone innovation. This device has cutting-edge technology, a sleek design, and powerful AI capabilities. The Z Fold7, which was announced in July 2025 and went on sale on July 25, 2025, is Samsung’s most advanced book-style foldable yet. It has a lot of new features that make it better than previous models. The Galaxy Z Fold7 is a big step forward in the foldable smartphone market. It has a very thin design, a better camera system, and features that are powered by AI. Here’s a detailed look at what makes this device special.

Design and Build: Lighter, Thinner, and More Useful
The Galaxy Z Fold7 is a great example of engineering, as it has Samsung’s thinnest and lightest foldable design so far. The Z Fold6 is 12.1mm thick when closed and 5.6mm thick when open, while the Galaxy S25 is 7.2mm thick. This one is only a little thicker than the Galaxy S25. The Z Fold7 weighs 215g, which is surprisingly light for a device that opens up into an 8-inch tablet-like screen. When folded, the phone has a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus Ceramic 2 front. When unfolded, it has a plastic front. The back is made of Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and the frame is made of Advanced Armor Aluminum. It is also IP48 dust and water resistant, which means it can protect against dust particles larger than 1mm and being submerged for up to 30 minutes at a time.

The new hinge makes it last longer when you fold it up and down, and even though the phone doesn’t always unfold to a perfectly flat 180 degrees (it sometimes stops at 179 degrees), this small problem is hardly noticeable in everyday use. The Z Fold7 feels more like a regular flagship phone when it’s closed because the cover screen is 6.5 inches wide (up from 6.3 inches) and has a wider 21:9 aspect ratio. This makes it easier to type and browse. The 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display (up from 7.6 inches) gives you 11% more screen space when it’s unfolded. This is great for doing more than one thing at once, watching videos, or making content. Both screens can refresh at 120Hz and reach a maximum brightness of 2,600 nits, so the colors will always be bright, even in direct sunlight.

The decision to remove S Pen support and the built-in S Pen holster is a big compromise, but it was made to make the device thinner and have bigger screens. This may disappoint long-time Z Fold users who depended on the stylus to get things done, but the trade-off makes the device slimmer and easier to carry.

Bigger and Brighter Display
One of the best things about the Galaxy Z Fold7 is its screens. The cover screen is 6.5 inches wide and has thinner bezels, which makes it easy to use with one hand without having to unfold the device. The main display is 8 inches wide and has a resolution of 1968 x 2184, which gives you sharp, bright images with very rich contrast and true blacks. Samsung’s Vision Booster technology makes things easier to see in bright places, and the screen is made to work well with polarized sunglasses. When you look at the foldable screen straight on, the crease is hard to see, but it might reflect light when it’s in direct sunlight.

Most of the content looks great, but some apps, like Instagram and TikTok, sometimes have problems with formatting or cropping on the main screen. These are small problems in an otherwise immersive experience, especially when you can use up to three apps at once or watch movies or play games.

Performance: Galaxy AI gives you powerful processing.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy is a custom chipset that powers the Galaxy Z Fold7. It gives the NPU a 41% boost, the CPU a 38% boost, and the GPU a 26% boost compared to the previous model. The Z Fold7 can easily handle tough tasks like real-time language translation, generative AI editing, and gaming when it has 12GB or 16GB of RAM and storage options of 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB. Better ray tracing and Vulkan optimization make games more fun to play, and they look great on the big screen, like Persona 5: The Phantom X and Genshin Impact.

The Z Fold7 runs on One UI 8 and has better AI features that are made for the foldable shape. Galaxy AI has tools like Photo Assist for editing photos (like getting rid of things you don’t want), Circle for finding in-game tips or doing visual searches, and Gemini Live AI Mode for getting help with conversations in real time, like fixing tech problems or looking at pictures. Quantum-resistant encryption makes the network more secure, and the new Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP21) makes sure that apps can store data safely. These features make the Z Fold7 a real AI partner that fits right into everyday tasks.

Camera: A Big Step Forward
The camera system on the Z Fold7 is a big improvement, bringing it closer to Samsung’s top-of-the-line Galaxy S series. The main camera has a 200MP ISOCELL HP2 sensor that comes from the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This sensor gives you amazing detail, bright colors, and great performance in low light. The three-camera setup has:

200MP wide (main) with AI-enhanced images for better lighting and realism.
12MP ultrawide lens with autofocus for focusing on things that are close.
10MP telephoto for clear close-up shots.

The internal and external 10MP selfie cameras now have an ultrawide lens that lets you see more of the scene. This is a big improvement over the Z Fold6’s 4MP internal camera.

The Z Fold7’s cameras take amazing pictures, whether you’re taking pictures of important events or just for fun. However, some users say that playing games for a long time or using the camera a lot can make the performance a little worse.

Battery life and charging are good, but not great.
The Z Fold7 has the same 4,400mAh battery as the Z Fold6, which isn’t as good as the Oppo Find N5 (5,600mAh) or Huawei Mate X6 (5,110mAh). It can charge at 25W wired and 15W wireless speeds, but these speeds aren’t as fast as those of other top-of-the-line devices. The battery is good for a day of light use, but if you do a lot of multitasking or gaming, you might need to charge it again. The retail box only comes with a USB-C cable and manuals, so users will have to buy a compatible 25W Samsung charger or a Power Delivery charger with PPS support separately.

One UI 8 and Beyond: Software and Ecosystem
The Z Fold7 comes with One UI 8, which focuses on foldables and has a better interface and more privacy features. With Samsung DeX support, the device becomes more like a desktop computer. Ultra Wideband (UWB) and Circle to Search add modern features. The device also works with the Galaxy ecosystem. For example, you can use the Samsung Health app to sync health data from the Galaxy Watch or Galaxy Ring to get features like Energy Score and Sleep Results.

Cost and Availability
The Galaxy Z Fold7 costs $2,000, which is $100 more than the Z Fold6. This is because it has better features. You can buy it on Samsung’s website, from carriers like AT&T, or from stores. It comes in colors like Blue Shadow, Silver Shadow, Jetblack, and Mint. Samsung has a “Buy and Try” program and a lot of accessories, like cases with grips or stands and an anti-reflective film for the cover screen. People could start pre-ordering on July 9, 2025, and the product would be available to everyone on July 25, 2025.

The Decision
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is a nearly perfect foldable phone that combines the portability of a regular phone with the flexibility of a tablet. In 2025’s foldable market, it stands out because of its ultra-slim design, bigger screens, powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, and improved 200MP camera. The Z Fold7 is a great choice for tech lovers and professionals because it has a sleek design and AI-driven features. However, it doesn’t support the S Pen, has a short battery life, and costs $2,000.
