In the middle to late 1990s, HotBot was one of the best search engines, along with Altavista, Yahoo!, and Excite. Wired Digital, a subsidiary of Wired Magazine, launched it in 1996. Lycos bought HotBot, another search engine company, in 1999 and tried to bring the brand back to life. But the efforts didn’t work, and HotBot eventually became a shell of what it used to be.

HotBot is now a thing of the past, a reminder of the early days of the internet and the search engines that used to rule the web. HotBot may not be a big player in the search engine market anymore, but its legacy lives on as a reminder of how innovative and experimental the early years of the web were.
