DJI Osmo 360: The Future of Immersive Video Capture

DJI Osmo 360: A new kind of action camera that can take 1-inch 360° images and 8K video.

The DJI Osmo 360 is a bold entry into the 360-degree action camera market by DJI, a world leader in drone and camera technology. This revolutionary camera, which came out on July 31, 2025, has a 1-inch 360° image sensor, native 8K video, and a set of creative tools. It is a strong competitor to well-known brands like Insta360 and GoPro Max. The Osmo 360 is made for adventurers, vloggers, and content creators. It promises to capture every angle with amazing clarity and flexibility. This is a detailed look at what makes this camera so special.

The 1-Inch Square Sensor is a game-changer for real 360° imaging.
The DJI Osmo 360 has a groundbreaking 1/1.1-inch square CMOS sensor at its core. This is the first time this type of sensor has been used in a 360-degree camera. The square HDR sensor gives you 25% more use than a standard rectangular sensor. It has the same imaging area as a 1-inch sensor with a 4:3 aspect ratio. This design makes better use of sensor space, which leads to better image quality, less noise, and better performance in low light. The Osmo 360 has big 2.4μm pixels, which is twice the industry standard, and an amazing 13.5 stops of dynamic range. It can record bright, detailed video even in tough situations like city nights or high-contrast sunrises.

The camera’s f/1.9 aperture lets in even more light, making sure that pictures are clear and bright even in low light. The Osmo 360’s sensor technology sets a new standard for panoramic imaging, whether you’re filming a busy city scene or a peaceful sunset.

High-Resolution Stills and 8K 360° Video
The Osmo 360 is the first 360-degree camera to support native 8K/30fps panoramic video. It can also do 8K/50fps video through upscaling, which is better than the Insta360 X5 (8K/30fps) and GoPro Max. This ultra-high resolution, along with 10-bit D-Log M color recording, gives creators more options for color grading in post-production, keeping fine details in highlights and shadows.

For people who love high frame rates, the camera can record 4K/100fps 360° video, which is great for capturing action-packed scenes like ski jumps or bike stunts in 4x slow motion. With a single lens, it can record in 5K/60fps or 4K/120fps with a 170° ultra-wide field of view in Boost Video mode. This makes the Osmo 360 a great action camera for POV shots or vlogs.

People who love photography will love being able to take 120MP 360° photos (16K) with just one tap. These photos have razor-sharp detail and are perfect for web use, large prints, or social media. When using HDR photography, the resolution drops to 30.72MP in single-lens mode, but there is still plenty of detail for post-processing.

Battery life and durability that can’t be beat
The Osmo 360 is very small and light, weighing only 183 grams. It is also very strong and can handle harsh conditions. It has an IP68 waterproof rating (up to 10 meters without extra housing) and can work for more than 1.5 hours at temperatures as low as -20°C. The 1,950mAh battery can record 8K/30fps video for up to 100 minutes or 6K/24fps video for up to 190 minutes. An advanced cooling system keeps the camera from overheating. The Battery Extension Rod, which is optional, adds up to 180 minutes of runtime for longer shoots. It can also charge quickly through USB-C, giving you 50% power in just 12 minutes.

Integration of Creative Tools and Ecosystems
The Osmo 360 has a lot of features that can help you tell stories in a more creative way:

Invisible Selfie Stick: This feature automatically removes the stick from 360° footage, making it easy to get third-person views that are great for action shots or vlogs.

HorizonSteady and RockSteady 3.0 are DJI’s stabilization technologies that make sure your footage is level and free of shake, even when you’re moving fast or rotating 360 degrees. RockSteady 3.0 gives you immersive first-person views when you use it in single-lens mode.

Gesture and Voice Control: Creators can start and stop recording hands-free with a palm gesture or voice command, which is great for solo shoots.

GyroFrame and Intelligent Tracking: The DJI Mimo app’s GyroFrame lets you change the composition based on motion, and intelligent tracking locks onto things like people, cars, or pets to get smooth, focused footage.

The OsmoAudio System has four built-in microphones that reduce wind noise and work directly with DJI Mic 2 and Mic Mini to make sure the sound quality is top-notch. The Mic Audio Backup feature records background noise so you can edit it later.

The camera works perfectly with DJI’s ecosystem and supports accessories like the Osmo Action series magnetic quick-release mounts, a 1/4-inch screw hole, and the DJI Mimo app for easy editing and control. The DJI Studio app has advanced editing tools, like an Adobe Premiere plugin for 360° video workflows that are as good as those used by professionals.

Performance in Action: A Danger to Insta360
Early reviews say that the DJI Osmo 360 takes better pictures in low light and has better image quality than the Insta360 X5. The square sensor design and bigger pixels make less noise and show more detail in difficult lighting. The 10-bit D-Log M recording is more flexible in post-production than the X5’s 8-bit I-Log. Testers have said that it can record smooth 8K/50fps video for almost 90 minutes and 8K/30fps video for more than 100 minutes without getting too hot, which shows how well it was made.

The Osmo 360 does have some problems, though. The non-swappable fisheye lenses could be a problem because scratches could make artifacts, but DJI does sell protective covers. The DJI Studio app works, but it needs to be improved to match the polish of other editing suites. In low light, stabilization may not work as well as it does with regular action cameras.

Prices and availability
There are two ways to set up the Osmo 360:

The Standard Combo (€479.99/~$549.99) comes with the camera, one battery, a protective pouch, a lens cloth, a USB-C cable, and a rubber lens protector.

The Adventure Combo (€629.99/~$699.99) comes with two extra batteries, a battery case that can do more than one thing, a quick-release adapter mount, and a 1.2m Invisible Selfie Stick.

DJI has not yet announced a release date for the U.S., but the Standard Combo is expected to cost $549.99 and the Adventure Combo is expected to cost $699.99.
