Kate Bohner: From Wall Street Whiz to Media Maven and Beyond

In the high-stakes world of finance, media, and entrepreneurship, few figures embody the spirit of reinvention quite like Kate Bohner. Born on April 14, 1967, in Wilmington, Delaware, Bohner has carved out a multifaceted career that spans journalism, authorship, investment banking, and digital innovation. With a resume boasting collaborations with titans like Donald Trump and stints at powerhouse outlets like CNBC and Forbes, her journey is a testament to adaptability in an ever-evolving professional landscape.

Bohner’s early career was steeped in the cutthroat arena of Wall Street. Fresh out of college in 1988, she dove headfirst into investment banking at Lazard, honing her skills in mergers and acquisitions and deal-making. But it was her pivot to journalism that catapulted her into the public eye. By the early 1990s, she had transitioned into reporting, where her sharp insights into finance and business caught the attention of industry heavyweights.

A pivotal moment came in 1997 when Boehner was tapped to co-author Trump: The Art of the Comeback with none other than Donald Trump. The book, a gritty chronicle of Trump’s business recoveries and strategies, soared to bestseller status—peaking at No. 3 on The New York Times list, No. 1 on The Wall Street Journal, and No. 2 on Businessweek. This collaboration not only burnished her credentials as a writer but also opened doors to broadcast stardom. That same year, she joined CNBC as a correspondent, co-launching the primetime flagship show Business Center alongside Maria Bartiromo and Tyler Mathisen. Her on-air presence was magnetic; she soon expanded her role, scripting and hosting “Kate Bohner’s Power File” on Power Lunch, a segment that dissected the day’s most influential business stories with unflinching precision.

Before CNBC, Bohner had already made her mark in print. At Forbes magazine, she started as a contributor and was promoted to writer within just 13 months. Her bylines graced sections on small business, healthcare, careers, and investigative pieces, including a reinvention of the iconic “The Informer” column that elevated her to the position of associate editor. This period solidified her reputation as a tenacious reporter unafraid to tackle complex financial narratives.

Bohner’s professional path took an entrepreneurial turn in the early 2000s. In 2000, she served as managing editor for E*Trade’s digital financial media startup, producing a six-day-a-week webcast that also aired on New York radio. The following year, she co-founded medical technology venture Living Independently, Inc. (later rebranded as QuietCare Systems and now Care Innovations), raising $17.4 million in seed capital. As chief marketing officer and then chief operating officer, she steered the company toward innovations in remote health monitoring—a prescient move in the pre-smartphone era of eldercare tech.

Never one to stay in a single lane, Bohner embraced the digital revolution. In 2006, she launched Kate’s Take on her YouTube channel KBTVonline, a snappy four-minute daily vlog filmed in South Florida. Blending hard-hitting news with quirky pop culture, finance, politics, and lifestyle tips, the show quickly gained traction, hitting No. 1 in 19 countries on Christmas Day that year. This foray into vlogging predated the influencer boom, showcasing her forward-thinking approach to media consumption.

Her ventures extended beyond finance and tech. In 2008, Bohner relocated to Los Angeles and co-founded Flybarre, a barre fitness program under Flywheel Sports, serving as national director. She later took on the role of chief marketing officer and director of communications at World Trade Financial Group in 2012. Philanthropy also factored into her portfolio; that year, she earned the Physicians for Peace (PFP) President’s Award for Special Achievement for her video and online advocacy raising awareness about vesicovaginal fistula (VVF) in Nigeria.

Today, at 58, Bohner continues to thrive as a C-suite powerhouse. She is the founder and CEO of Bohner Bespoke, a strategic advisory firm specializing in finance, marketing, and business planning for clients across the U.S., London, Munich, Hong Kong, and Grand Cayman. Additionally, she holds key roles at DMS Governance (formerly DMS Offshore), including chief communications officer, research and marketing officer, and managing director—focusing on crisis management, regulatory compliance, and brand strategy.

Her LinkedIn profile paints a picture of a connector extraordinaire, with over 500 connections and a penchant for celebrating journalistic milestones, like the rare father-son A-hed duo in The Wall Street Journal.
