OpenAI Makes Waves in India: ChatGPT Go Subscription Now Free for a Year Starting November 4

OpenAI has said that everyone in India will be able to use its ChatGPT Go subscription for free for a whole year, starting on November 4, 2025. The promotion, which was announced on October 28, lets anyone in the country use premium AI features for free during this time. Users can sign up for ChatGPT through the website or mobile app. The sign-up period starts next week. People who already subscribe will also get information on how to use the offer.

ChatGPT Go is a mid-tier plan that costs ₹399 per month and was released in India in August 2025. It is in the middle of the free version and the more expensive ones, like ChatGPT Plus (₹1,999/month) and Pro (₹19,990/month). The plan includes more message limits, more access to the GPT-5 model, better image generation and analysis, longer conversation memory, and fewer deep research tools. It is made for students, professionals, and small business owners who need dependable AI help but don’t want to pay for premium plans.

India is OpenAI’s second biggest market after the US, and it is on track to become the biggest. The country has quickly adopted AI tools, with more than 800 million people using the internet. OpenAI says that paid subscriptions in India doubled in the first month after ChatGPT Go came out. The company is also growing by opening new offices in New Delhi and Bengaluru and is in talks to set up data centers in those cities.

The free subscription offer comes before OpenAI’s first DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru on November 4. There will be developer workshops, product demos, and talks about how to use AI at the event. OpenAI says that the goal of the promotion is to make advanced AI available to more people and to encourage creative and useful use of its tools.

There is more and more competition in India’s AI field. Perplexity AI recently teamed up with Airtel to give millions of people free access to its Pro plan. For a year, Google has made its AI Pro features free for students. Anthropic is also looking into stronger connections with Indian institutions. People think that OpenAI’s move is a way to get users to stick around for a long time in a market where price is important.

Users can claim the offer by going to chat.openai.com or the ChatGPT app starting November 4, signing in or making an account, and choosing the ChatGPT Go promotion. There are no special requirements to be eligible. Users can keep using the service at the regular ₹399 monthly rate after the free year is over, or they can upgrade to a higher plan.

The leaders of OpenAI have said that India will play a big part in the future of AI. The company is working with national programs like the IndiaAI Mission, which is all about using AI in education, healthcare, and government. OpenAI wants to speed up adoption and innovation across the country by getting rid of cost barriers for a year.
