In the crowded world of electric vehicles, where big names like Tesla and Hyundai get a lot of attention, a new company from Vietnam is making waves. VinFast, Vingroup’s ambitious car division, has been steadily growing its presence around the world since it opened in the U.S. in 2023. The 2025 VF 7 is a small crossover SUV that is the brand’s most recent entry into the competitive midsize EV market. This model was shown off at CES in January 2022 and is now available on roads all over the world. It fits perfectly between the smaller VF 6 and the larger VF 8, and it is aimed at people who want style, tech, and efficiency without spending a lot of money. The VF 7 will be available in important markets like India and the U.S. starting in September 2025. It will compete with the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, and Nissan Ariya.
Design: Smooth, modern, and unapologetically futuristic
Torino Design, an Italian design firm led by Lee Jae Hoon, created the VF 7’s exterior, which is a masterclass in modern EV design. The car is 178.9 inches long, 74.4 inches wide, and 64.4 inches tall. It is longer than a Genesis GV60 but shorter than a Nissan Ariya. It is the perfect size for city driving and for families. The car looks sporty because of its coupe-like roofline and aggressive stance. The 19-inch alloy wheels and unique LED lighting make it even sportier. A full-width LED light bar in the front that can do animated effects gives the car a high-end look, and signature lights in the back add style.
VinFast’s interior has a simple, Tesla-like feel, with vegan leather seats and a dashboard that is free of clutter and has a huge infotainment screen—12.9 inches in the base trim and 15 inches in the Plus. There is plenty of room for five people in the cabin, and early reviews praised the surprisingly spacious rear seat for its comfort. We don’t know how much cargo space there is yet, but the fact that the back seats fold flat makes it seem like it would be great for weekend trips. The VF 7 feels more expensive than it is because it has options like a panoramic sunroof and heated and cooled front seats.
Powertrain and Performance: Strong and Efficient
The VF 7 comes in two trims: Eco and Plus. Both have a 75.3 kWh lithium-ion battery that powers them. The Eco has front-wheel drive and 201 horsepower and 228 lb-ft of torque. It goes from 0 to 60 mph in about 7 to 8 seconds, which is about the same as other VinFast models. Choose the Plus, and you’ll get all-wheel drive with 348–349 horsepower and 368 lb-ft from two electric motors. This will cut your sprint time to about 5.5 seconds for a more exciting ride.
The class has good range estimates: the Eco can go up to 280 miles on the EPA cycle, and the Plus can go up to 268 miles. However, these numbers may change depending on how you drive and the conditions. VinFast hasn’t said how fast the charging will be yet, but it should be able to charge up to 150 kW, which is about 200 miles in 30 minutes, which is the same as its competitors. Both trims can get updates over the air, so the VF 7 stays up to date without having to go to a dealership. Early testers say that the car accelerates quickly and rides smoothly, but the suspension may need some fine-tuning for U.S. highways.
Loaded with tech and safety for the digital age
VinFast has a lot of cool gadgets. The main touchscreen has a responsive infotainment system with navigation, a virtual assistant, and the ability to connect to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly. The tech package includes a heads-up display and high-end audio. Ambient lighting adds a nice touch.
Level 2 ADAS is standard on all models, which makes them very safe. Adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and Highway Assist for semi-autonomous highway driving are some of the features. We don’t know what the NHTSA and IIHS ratings will be for the 2025 model yet, but VinFast’s full range of features makes it a strong competitor in its class. The brand’s 10-year/125,000-mile warranty on the car and unlimited-mileage battery coverage set it apart from most other brands.
Pricing and Availability: Entry-Level Value
The price of the 2025 VF 7 is still a secret in the U.S., but the Eco trim should start at around $37,000, which is a great deal compared to the Ioniq 5, which costs more than $42,000. It costs about $25,000 (Rs. 20.89 lakh ex-showroom) in India, where it is made in Tamil Nadu. This is less than competitors like the BYD Sealion 7. Prices for different models can go up to $30,500 (Rs. 25.49 lakh) for the best ones, like Sky Infinity.
Availability began in India on September 6, 2025, after the Bharat Mobility Global Expo earlier this year. VinFast’s North Carolina plant is ramping up production, but full operations won’t start until 2028 because of delays. Deliveries to the U.S. are expected to start in late 2025 or early 2026. Leasing options, including strong incentives, are the same as those on the VF 8, which could bring monthly payments down to less than $300.
The Verdict: A Strong Candidate with Room to Grow
The 2025 VinFast VF 7 is a smart, feature-rich electric vehicle that does more than its weight in power. Reviewers say it’s a “knockout” because of its roomy interior, powerful performance, and unbeatable price. It checks all the boxes for tech-savvy families without going overboard. It has everything you need from the base trim, and the design is both bold and elegant. But, like with any new brand, there are still questions: Will the software problems from older models like the VF 8 still be there? And how will it do in tests of long-term reliability?
VinFast’s quick change from a concept at CES to a real car in a showroom shows that they have big plans. The VF 7 is a great way to get into high-end electric mobility in a market full of EVs. If you’re looking for a small SUV that combines Vietnamese creativity with worldwide appeal, this could be the car for you. Watch out for VinFast; they’re not just joining the game; they’re changing the rules.
